Last week marked my 19-year cancer anniversary, a significant milestone that I couldn't let pass without recognizing the importance of the day. If I'm honest, there have been years where I forgot my cancer anniversary (March 6, 2006) because raising my family and navigating the dailiness of life took center stage. I now know that turned out to be a mistake. Each year since my diagnosis should be a testament to growth, resilience and the importance of honoring life. This year, I chose to take a long walk on the beach, reflecting on my long road and how far I have come.

Reflecting on My 10-Year Anniversary
When I celebrated my 10-year anniversary, I opted for an adrenaline rush by going skydiving for the first time. An exhilarating experience, it pushed my boundaries and reminded me of the thrill of living life to its fullest. The rush of jumping out of a plane was symbolic of my leap into a new chapter, free from the shadows of cancer (Full disclosure: once was enough).
Finding Your Way to Recognize Your Journey
As I walked along the beach this year, I realized the importance of finding your unique way of honoring the achievement of another year post-diagnosis. Whether you choose an adrenaline-filled adventure or a quiet moment of reflection, the day is yours to celebrate. It's a chance to acknowledge your strength and to appreciate the life you’ve built after cancer.
It’s essential to carve out time for yourself, even if it means taking a break from the kids (wink, wink). Make it your day filled with activities that resonate with you- do what makes you feel alive. Your journey is unique, and your celebration should be too.
Surviving is a milestone. Living is a choice.
